Bringing a bag on board with you — letting you skip the luggage counter on the way in, the carousel on the way out, and making sure your valuables never leave your side — is inarguably a convenience. Having lost bags and waited over 40 minutes at a carousel (thanks, DTW!) before, I can promise you that the words “convenient” and “checked bag” never appear in the same sentence.
